Summary:
In Genesis 1, God created the Universe with three discrete building block materials: ‘waters’, ‘light’ and ‘firmament’. Today, they are called dark matter (a non-luminous matter), ordinary matter (atomic particles with force energies) and dark energy (a repulsive force that causes the expansion of space-time), respectively.
Discussion:
The chemical composition of the Universe, the physical nature of its constituent matter and energy are topics that have fascinated the world for centuries. Until 30 years ago, scientists thought that the Universe was composed entirely of ordinary matter (atoms with protons, neutrons and electrons). Accurate measurements of the cosmic microwave background density fluctuations (COBE, WMAP, Planck, SDCC, etc.) have shown that the visible ordinary matter (galaxies, stars, ocean, all living things, your dinner, etc.) is only a tiny amount (4.6%)

of what the universe is actually made of. A very large fraction of the universe, in fact 24%, is made of a matter that does not emit any light or electromagnetic radiation of any kind but can only be detected through its gravitational effects. The remaining 71% of the mass-energy content of the universe, is a repulsive energy force called dark energy. Dark energy, the anti-thesis of the gravitational dark matter, is the force that cause the expansion of space-time. This idea stems from the observation that all galaxies seem to be receding from each other at an accelerating pace.
In Genesis 1, God used ‘waters’, ‘light’ and ‘firmament’ as the starting ingredients for the Universe. In the next few blogs, we will explore evidence that ‘waters’ is the non-luminous matter (dark matter), ‘light’ the ordinary matter, and ‘firmament’ the force that expands the spacetime (dark energy)

Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Genesis 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Genesis 1:6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
Genesis 1:7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
Genesis 1:8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
